Furnishing a small bathroom in style: from tiles to bathroom furniture.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Small bathrooms <\/strong>constitute one of the planning situations most dreaded by homeowners and designers. A number of functions have to share just a few square metres without compromising aesthetics: this post summarises the main interior decoration solutions for bathrooms lacking space<\/strong> but rich in style. You don\u2019t need a large bathroom to achieve that wow effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing tiles and cladding for a small bathroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

How to tile\na small bathroom<\/strong>? One of the first steps at the planning stage is to define\na moodboard that outlines the materials and textures for the chosen style, and\nthen select tiles or cladding and the bathroom colour scheme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are no set rules or compositions better\nthan others to enhance small bathrooms<\/strong>.\nNowadays there are infinite solutions for tiling small bathrooms, from mini\nformats (such as mosaic) to extra-large ones. \nHowever, given the limited area, if considering maxi tiles make sure you\nassess their visual effect inside a small room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An excellent contemporary solution is medium-large formats<\/strong>, such as 60x120cm\nor 80x160cm: large enough for a small bathroom and just the right size to work\nwell in limited space. The advantage of medium-large formats is that they are\nquick to lay and reduce grouting, emphasising tile texture or an attractive 3D\nrelief effect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an alternative to tiles, in order to reduce joints and grout lines, walls can be coated with latest generation resins or wallpapered with special bathroom coverings.  These should be carefully considered for use on just one or two walls to give the bathroom greater depth and expand space by drawing attention to d\u00e9cor details. Small tricks for small bathrooms<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to furnish a small bathroom <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It may be complicated to use a set bathroom furniture composition. But don\u2019t despair, compositions can also be broken up, for example separating the washbasin unit from the cabinet. A free-standing <\/a>washbasin is an attractive idea in such cases: suspended units or tall units attached to free walls make up for the lack of a traditional vanity unit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In truly mini bathrooms everything must be adapted, including cabinets and washbasin units. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It sometimes happens that less popular d\u00e9cor\nsolutions, such as floor-standing cabinets, are underestimated; and yet there\nare bathroom furniture collections that provide elegant, minimal style\nalternatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light: natural, artificial, targeted<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The illumination of a small bathroom is fundamental\nto make lighting a decor element that can radically change the perception of\nspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything can help to achieve the result of a spacious bathroom<\/strong>, even if it is an\nillusion: the effect of natural light, strategically placed LED bars, off-centre\nlight fittings or spotlights that show off a decorative detail or a d\u00e9cor, can create\nthe impression of space.  Light as a\nd\u00e9cor item can also be an illuminated mirror, perhaps generously proportioned\nso that it doubles the space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small bathroom: shower or bathtub?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although a shower enclosure may appear to be the\nmost obvious solution for small bathrooms, a bathtub should not be dismissed\nout of hand. There are comfortable, compact models that can create the\nimpression of a small wellness area in the bathroom.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, if a shower is the only possibility,\nthere are many solutions suitable for small spaces: space-saving, functional shower enclosures<\/a> solve the\nquestion of space with sliding or folding doors and minimal frames that do not\nintrude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small, windowless bathrooms: a practical example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The pictures below show a project by one of our\ndealers, in which the made-to-measure decor, optimised space and illumination\ncreate a luminous, modern designer bathroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project develops over two walls: the shorter\none hosts the walk-in<\/a> shower, partially\nclosed by a bespoke glass panel machined to accommodate the Aquatek top<\/strong> of the bathroom cabinet,\nwhich is magically transformed into a shower shelf.  This is a demonstration that a spacious,\ncomfortable shower enclosure can exist in a small bathroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet, one of the extremely versatile Cubik<\/a> modules, occupies the full length of the second wall, and conceals the washing machine<\/a> without needing to change the depth of the washbasin unit top. The uncluttered good looks and particular 45\u00b0 door give the room a refined, minimal look. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light coloured tiles and well-positioned lights\nperfect the end result: don\u2019t you agree that the impression is of anything but a\nsmall, windowless bathroom<\/a>? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
